Salt Scrub

Salt Scrubs are a fantastic way to exfoliate the skin for a more enhanced look.  When you think of salt, do you simply think of that seasoning that you should avoid? Well have you ever heart of a salt scrub? A salt scrub also known as a salt glow is one of the most popular treatments provided at spas across the country. Whoever knew that salt could help hydrate and exfoliate your skin leaving it softer, and hydrated.

When you get a salt scrub treatment at a day spa, you are first instructed to lie down on the table while the therapist applies the salt mixture to one area of your body at a time. Only the area that is receiving the treatment is uncovered. The salt mixture will consist of salt, oil, and some aromatherapy agent such as lavender or lemon. Many spas give you a choice of what type of salt scrub from the fabulous forbidden fruit scrub with apple and pear or the outrageous chocolate scrub with vanilla bean lotion.

If you are looking for a “pick me up”, try a peppermint and eucalyptus salt scrub, or a relaxing salt scrub with lavender and green tea.  The salt itself may be exotic sea salt or may be the less exotic Epson salts. The salt may feel course as if you are having sand rubbed into your skin. The salt scrub may be the first step in a further body treatment. Salt scrubs are typically used prior to a body wrap or a full body massage. If you prefer, a salt scrub may be the only body treatment that you receive.

After the salt mixture is rubbed into your whole body it is time to rinse off the salt and showcase that soft skin. You will either be brought to a wet room where there is a standing shower or if you are lucky you will have access to a shower that will be used while you are lying down. The wet table is the best. You just lay there as the therapist uses a hand held shower head and washes all the salt mixture off of you.

Salt scrubs are not just for special events, they are the perfect spa treatment to get any day of the year. They are perfect for end of the summer when your summer tan is beginning to fade away, and just as great to have mid winter when you are experiencing dry skin from the winter cold. Salt scrubs simply remove the outer dead skin layer of your skin, leaving behind skin that is soft and smooth. Remember that you can also use a salt scrub as a warm up for another type of body treatment such as a body wrap or a full body massage. Starting off with a salt scrub only makes the latter treatment so much better. The price for salt scrubs varies by the area of the country you are located in as well as whether you just having a salt scrub or a salt scrub with a moisturizing treatment.
